Jackie Long is an artist whose focus is animal subjects, domestic and wild.

Jackie’s mission is -

To capture the spirit of animals and their unique behaviors.

Jackie began drawing as a child, with family pets and other animals as her favorite subjects. She sketched primarily in pencil and India ink. Later, Jackie painted with India ink and watercolor. Recently, Jackie has been painting with acrylic. Her style is representational, with a goal of conveying animals and their behaviors in a realistic and painterly manner. A change in career led Jackie to rural Kansas, where she met her husband. It also gave her access to the subjects she loves - horses, cattle, wildlife, and prairie and rugged landscapes. Exposure to the art exhibited in the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum sparked the passion for creating and continues to inspire!

Favorite artists include Tucker Smith, Andrew Peters, Bob Kuhn, Robert Lougheed, Eldridge Hardie, Joseph Crawhall, C. Michael Dudash, Rien Poortvliet, Sir Alfred Munnings … the list could go on!

Acknowledgements

Without God’s blessings, which include encouragement from my husband, family and friends, I would achieve nothing. My good friends, Sherry, Anna, and Kelly, have provided countless personal photos that provide endless inspiration.

About 25 years ago, my family visited the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. The Prix de West exhibit was on display and became an inspiration and annual pilgrimage. I have had the privilege of attending workshops taught by Loren Entz and Andrew Peters, and Sonya Terpening, thanks to the Museum.

MarkArts instructors, Doug Billings and Melinda Weis, have helped greatly improve my skills. As a member of Kansas Art Guild, I benefit from regular critiques.
